No Regrets is such a fucking awesome narrative. It sounds like a poem that you would see in a shel silverstein book.

One of my favorite old school hip hop albums in general, Best storytelling of anyone, mind-blowing lyricism, and amazing talent.. a unique sound to the genre.

Aesop Rock is an absolute whiz at abstract lyricism. Nothing he says seems to make sense which is the charm about him, meaning their is always something to dissect. When he does decide to be straightforward however, his lines resonate with massive impact, with lines such as "Life's not a bitch, life is a beautiful woman, you only call her a bitch because she won't let you get that pussy". This is backed by a plethora of memorable mood-setting beats that are among my favorites. I could see the argument behind him being pretentious considering just how much symbolism he uses, but I think it serves to make an incredibly intellectual rap record.

Aesop Rock and this album in particular destroy pretty much all other hip-hop I've ever heard, especially lyrically. No Regrets is probably one of the best songs I've ever heard from the genre.

It's pretty hard to keep track of what Aesop Rock is talking about for more than a few lines at a time; the lyrics are full of obscure references and an extremely advanced vocabulary. If you take the time to really pay attention, though, you'll find he has a lot of interesting stuff to say -- especially on "Save Yourself" (which has a fantastic beat) and "No Regrets."
