I just got this album recently and it is one of the better albums I have heard all year. It is heavy, fast, and melodic all at the same time. These guys know how to write a perfect riff and the drumming is fast as hell. The vocals are not everybodies cup of tea but I like them quite a bit. The one thing I do not like about the album is the bass is hardly noticable, and there is little to no variation... nevertheless splendid album. Will definitely pick up Miasma.

I liked TBDM when their melodeath was just straight swedeath At the Gates plagiarism. The rasps were neat, the production was rough, it's no frills melodeath without all the NWOAHM-isms.

Never heard of these guys untill I went to see a show with Remembering Never and Shadows Fall, and was awe-struck by an incredible show-stealing performance. They quickly became, and remain my favorite band (a big hell yeah to UnskathedGuitar). I love this album, and although different from Miasma, is no better or worse (well, I could venture to say the vocals sound better on this one, but the drumming is better on Miasma). Favorite track is Blackest Incarnation. I've seen them live 4 times, and have never been dissapointed. I can't wait for a new album with their new percussionist and human drum machine, Pierre.

9th January: The Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed (melodic death metal, 2003)
As some of you know, I use an algorithm written into a spreadsheet to tell me what to listen to,
at least for revisiting albums I’ve already heard. I didn’t always use this method (naturally), so
sometimes it tells me to listen to albums that I last heard a decade ago, but because I only
listened once, I should revisit. This was one of those.
It amazes me just how far removed this is from what I know as melodic death metal - having grown
up on Insomnium, this just seems like another world of music. And it’s not particularly melodic,
honestly. Any melody here is in the form of trite drop tuned chug riffs, the kind you’d get from
someone just learning guitar and working out how many ways they can play the same riff to come up
with a full repertoire. But the real killer here is the vocals - these are the kinds of vocals I
imagine when people talk about blanket hating harsh vocals. They’re just aesthetically hideous,
and instantly offputting. I don’t really know how anyone can stomach them. So yes, this is about
as bad as the score I gave it 10 years ago. Congrats, teenage me, you were right.

Just about a 3, as it is a fun listen. Simple and catchy, very reminiscent of late ATG. It?s slightly 1-dimensional, although influences from a wide array like Black Metal, Metalcore and of course Death Metal/Melodeath are all to be found. Trevor?s vocals also aren?t all that yet.

i saw these guys live. and all there songs sound the same it was bad. i couldnt figure out why but they just had to start and end the same way on each song. they aren't terrible sounding live but i was done with these guys after two songs and then they played three more. not goooooood.
