With Vs., Pearl Jam began to wane the "grunge" tag and expand their sound to include influence of everything from heartland rock to early funk. Whilst slightly lacking the spark of Ten, the album is still home to some of the band's defining songs: Animal, Daughter and Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town are the strongest examples of this. Not their finest hour, but invariably an essential addition to your Pearl Jam collection.
Pearl Jam at both their loudest loud and softest soft. With menacing instrumentation and actual screams from Vedder next to some of the band's most subtle work, Vs. is an absolute winner. Almost a shame Ten is so fantastic, because this is definitely not a record to be overlooked.
Compared to Ten, this album is NOT boring. Vs. has ranges of songs from melodic & slow to heavy & loud... overall it gives your ear drums a varied experience that will leave you asking yourself a few questions & make you wonder...
This band was great pretty much every album. This wasnt necisarrily their best but close enough. Eddie vents out some impressive vocals while the guitarists and the drummer throw out some excellent skill. Daughter a hit of theirs was Really great. Animal stood out as great as well. all in all its pearl jam and its rare they do to bad.
I am biased but I cannot think of another band besides Led Zepplin to have such an outstanding sophmore release. I'll admit when it first came out I didn't like it as much as Ten but I think it was because I was not mature enough to understand it. Now it makes much more sense and Indifference goes down as one of my favorites. I will not change direction, I will not change my mind.......Wow.
