A copy of their painful mainstream hard-rock debut album, only a little better and not as painful.

Mainstream rock-more so the alternative metal/post-grunge in the 21st century has been slammed by countless bands with this cliche/generic/bland writing style that they get heavily criticized for (which in all fairness is something they deserve). 3DG is another band that could be pushed into the category. The riffs, songwriting, and vocals are all very simple/generic/ and in no way groundbreaking. But what (oddly) separates this album from the clump is the lyrical approach. Unlike hiding everything in vague metaphors 3DG approach the songs with an upfront straightforward lyrical approach.
That's not to say it's groundbreaking but they do it much better than most of their contemporaries. Basically put: the simple lyrical approach goes hand in hand with the simple musical approach. Not that the album is incredibly smooth but when they hit the strides this stuff sounds incredibly honest, strong, and catchy. If your hoping for something groundbreaking here-don't bother because you won't find it. However, if you want some nice simple honest catchy alternative metal (because it's music too!). This is certainly an album to check out.

Rating for nostalgia reasons. This album is very deep but in a shallow way if that makes any sense...rBasically this album is perfect for angsty 12 year olds and it does so to what appears to them in a mature way. If that is the goal of this album then it is very successful at it. Regardless this one of the first rock albums I ever enjoyed and love it for that reason alone.r

One thing I love lots about this album is the immense amount of emotion & power that comes out of it. This band is very good lyrically, many of the songs here are very well written despite the fact that some of the songs are about the same things. Musically they're basic but they definitely know how to fit their sound around the lyrics & Adam Gontier's great voice. This is a brilliant album in a time where many mainstream rock bands are simply making albums that don't seem to care about the music they make.

This is partly a nostalgia rating, but I can say without exaggeration that half of the songs on here have catchier choruses than most straight-up pop hits of at least the last 15 years. That's not an easy thing to achieve.

Lyrics are better crafted in comparison to their first album. Such tracks that support this claim would be tracks 1, 2, 6, and 12. Oddly enough this album featured a heightened bass (and instrumentations overall) that nearly eclipsed the vocals in every song (aside from track 4 and 6). Unfortunately, these "improvements" were minimal at best...

Vocal-centric radio rock which is mostly lazy and generic. The vocalist has a great voice, so it's not completely meritless, but it's ultimately a boring record and, with so much other great music out there, not worth listening to.

Ha. I Remember when this was my favorite album.... Man, i had low standards. I'm giving it a 3 for nostalgia and because i think the vocalist has some talent to him, other than that, if you never listen to this album, you don't miss out on anything.

Three Days Grace's "one X" is definitely the same generic rock-grunge peice with basic riffs,melody lines and the vocals are developed off the same basic theme(dark, emo whatever you want to call it). However its not a complete waste of listening time with the interesting effects and harmony between the acoustic guitars and the vocals.Simple but it works.

A very solid album. Granted, there's nothing as powerful as "(I Hate) Everything About You" or "Just Like You," but at least all One-X "non-singles" don't suck massively like on their first album. The only song I can't stand is "Riot." And, yes, there really is nothing special about this band, but it's good generic listening. "It's All Over" and "Let It Die" are my top picks.
