Little talks is just a great song. But the album was quite a disappointment to me, because they all sound the same, very unoriginal up to lame.

This album makes them stand out among their contemporaries, who usually just produce one or two good songs that get overplayed on the radio. This album has absolutely no boring song on it.

I get the appeal but this sort of thing isn't for me. The songs themselves are rather
predictable. You can almost pin-point when an instrument is going to enter and leave or when
a key-change is about to happen and the lyricism doesn't do enough to make these things
ready to prepare for. I think the reason behind this is that it's not all that original at
all. Therefore, we have a record that I find blends in with the crowd of already rather
uniform sounding stylistics for something habitual and casual. A fluffy listen but I
wouldn't go back to it.

This band is amazing. The album is packed with delicate sounds, clever lyrics, and interesting duets, providing the perfect soundtrack for a summertime soiree. However, they are even better live. Before anyone decides that OFMM is cliche or overrated, they need to attend a live show and see the chemistry between members. Casual fans become avid followers, and many simply fall in love with the two lead singers, Ragnar and Brynjar. Of Monsters and Men sound a bit too similar to your other favorite anthemic folk rock group, but they pack in too much heart to be ignored.

A band that gets this amount of exposure rarely finds a fitting for the career ahead of them. But Of Monsters and Men stamps seal of with this album, finding a place among other indie bands out there.

Though the album has a fair share of cliche instrumental segments and lyrics (Love Love Love or Dirty Paws), the upbeat nature and gorgeous composition of songs like Mountain Sound or From Finner (featuring the dual fronting vocals that are a great feature of the band) give it a major boost.r3.3

My Head is an Animal is such a well rounded and honest debut album it really is hard to find a serious flaw in it. OMaM has such a earthy and hearty sound to their music that evokes feelings that I can only describe as a mix of coming home, nostalgia and in a certain sense triumphant victory.rI've always been really impressed with some of the bands that come out of iceland, for such a small country it has produced some of the most heartfelt and genuine music I've had the pleasure to listen to. Dirty Paws, Little Talks, Mountain Sound, Your Bones and Sloom are probably the albums strongest songs and feel the most thought out. rThere are a couple lulls here and there, mostly the last 3 tracks of the album lose the the vigor and passion the earlier side gives off but easily still listenable if not just less inspired. That all being said, some of the best Indie Folk singles of the past 2 years have been these guys and it's easy to see why. With Mumford and Sons 2nd release feeling like little more than a cash in on a name. It's good to know we might have some more to look forward to from this Icelandic group. r

A very powerful debut from this Icelandic six piece. Of Monsters and Men have a much more original and honest approach to their folk roots than say Mumford and Sons. The songs flow together beautifully on this album and possess a cool breeze to them. This album proves that indie folk can still be great.

An excellent debut by the Icelanders. Imaginative, melodic, coherent and full of quality both in terms of sounds and songs. Excellent choice in choosing the singles as well (''Dirty Paws'', ''Little Talks'', ''Mountain Sound'', ''King and Lionheart''). One thing it needed a change was the song arrangement. The first half of it is full of energy, while the second is evident that lacks it in a great extent.

Excellent, energetic folk music, interesting lyrics and song interpretations, and superb use of dual male/female vocals. While some albums have only a few songs worth listening too, this album is practically full of these songs, so it deserves a 4.5.
