4.0 excellent | DatsNotDaMetulz | November 28th 11 | The emerging style of "dub metal" is set to dominate rock and metal airwaves in the next few years, and is likely to be the next mainstream rock medium. Korn have set a high benchmark with The Path Of Totality, and while the genre is definitely capable of improving, this album is set to provide a new gateway and surely prove the doubters wrong. Top tracks: Narcissistic Cannibal, Sanctuary, Bleeding Out.

1.5 very poor | Scoot | November 28th 11 | there is no way korn made an album anywhere close to a 4.2

3.5 great | BassDemon333 | November 28th 11 | Many will regard this album as a terrible work of music and an abomination, but the fact remains that Korn have been doing the same nu-metal sound since their 1994 debut. Sure, they manipulated it with See You on the Other Side and Untitled, but its grown very tiring to listen to a Korn record these days. With the elements of electronic music thrown into the mix with The Path of Totality the band have made their music interesting to listen to again if anything. Pretty impressive to see them rebounding off of their recent redundant albums with this.

0.0 | tresm87 | November 29th 11 | Best album they've had since see you on the other side, I just wish skrillex could have done the whole album
instead of other dubstep artists, his were easily the best. Some songs off of this remind me of Love Song.

3.0 good | Jacobking | December 18th 11 | There comes a time in every hookers life when she loses her teeth, her body goes South and she realizes, maybe she should pack it in as a profession. What once was an attractive young flower has now become an old rusted tow truck searching the lost highways of love in hopes of one last pull. Which bring me to the latest Korn release The Path Of Totality. Unlike the hooker in my previous thought, Korn uses modern science to extend its longevity in the market place (kind of like Botox or dental implants) allowing their machine, perhaps past its prime, to carry on with the task at hand! How Vogue of them!!
There is no denying its a Korn record with the exception that Jonathan Davis and the gang push things a bit more in respect to electronic music and heavy guitars, dare I say dub-step. Narcissistic Cannibal is an example of their evolution and experimentation. Fusing electronics with heavy guitars is nothing new (Marilyn Manson / NIN) and it works. As electronic music and technology evolves, Korn has positioned their way into the dance clubs while still keeping the Ozzfest fans happy.
I doubt the average dub-step hipster will get it, but some will and I am sure not all the Korn fans will get it, but some will and finally some folks might NOT think that Korn are pandering by jumping on the dub-step train, BUT SOME WILL.
As the wise owl once told me some will, some wont, so what!!
2 Bumps | Bump |
2.0 poor | Jared Floryan | October 22nd 14 | To call The Path of Totality a failed experiment is going just a bit too far, don't you think? Nu metal and dubstep are much like oil and water, and it's quite apparent here on this album. Although the two genres coming together results in a serious abundance of unoriginality and monotonous wobbles supplied by underwhelming guest cameos, I'll give Korn credit for taking a risk upon recording this release no matter how detrimental it was to their career. To put it simply, there are other collaborations which exist that are more ghastly than the album known as The Path of Totality.

0.0 | mattsobuser | July 1st 12 | rDo you hate how this album sounds, or do you hate the idea of this album? Korn keeps up with the time with new sounds of this age, and if you are going to be narrow minded, listen to ACDC or Metallica. Your vocabulary was nice, but you act like Korn is not allowed to their own thing, which invented Nu metal.

2.5 average | Jau Peacecraft | December 23rd 11 | Definitley a grower, but Sanctuary is just plain awful. The foreshadowing of more experimentation that could've taken place prevents this album for going anywhere higher than a 3.5 / 4.

0.0 | Lumyth | December 9th 11 | Korn remembered who they were just in time to forget it all again on The Path of Totality, an unexpected left turn into dubstep and all manner of dark electronica from the kings of nu metal. Unexpected this move may be, but not unnatural. Korn always emphasized texture over riffs, so shifting from a gray guitar grind toward claustrophobic electronic collage doesn’t induce shock, apart from the shock that the album actually works. Korn’s cast of collaborators -- notably the Grammy-nominated Skrillex, but also Noisia, Excision, Feed Me, and 12th Planet -- does not redefine the band’s character but rather reinterpret it, retaining the same tempos, the same creeping minor-key melodies and riffs, the same sense of enveloping angst that have been present since their 1994 debut. The difference of arrangement -- heavy on skittish drums and electro walls of assault -- has the curious effect of making Korn seem not adventurous but rather mature: the content of Jonathan Davis’ rants matter less than his tone, and the producers have folded his vocals, along with Munky’s buzzing guitar, into a web that feels like Korn even if it doesn’t strictly sound like any other Korn album, not even the industrial-funk of See You on the Other Side. Despite all the electronics, there’s no mistaking The Path of Totality as a Korn album...and one of their better ones to boot.

1.5 very poor | Erwann S. STAFF | October 13th 20 | This was everywhere in 2011. Damn shame, 'cause it's real shit. Not because the two genres they try to mix - nu metal and brostep - are bad per se (although some historians tend to disagree on that particular point). No, if this album fails, it's because it's deeply disorganized. In one sentence: random "wub wub wub" parts are thrown in the middle of a riff while an undermixed Davis is shouting edgy adolescent lyrics ("Shut the fuck up, get up" bruh you're 40 years old). The worst thing is that Davis stated the band wanted to trailblaze with this album. Spoiler: trailblazing is not about doing something you're not supposed to do. It's about understanding different genres, and coming up with your own take on the fusion of said genres. They did not understand anything about dubstep, brostep, or even sistep. In the end, it sounds like a bunch of boomers learned about the new kool thing and tried to incorporate the most fodder side of said thing into their already-dated aesthetic. It's a massive failure, but at least they tried to come up with something different. Gotta give 'em respect for that. 1.3

2.0 poor | davezillaMP3 | August 1st 20 | Combining dubstep and Metal is not a bad idea, but aside from the admiralty excellent "Narcissistic cannibal" and the solid "Get Up" and "Tension" this is a rather lazy tame effort. for the dubstep-metal combo done right, check out Crossfaithrhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg9sCRzbvHY

1.5 very poor | TabulaRasa6 | November 28th 19 | None of this is worth salvaging, especially nowadays with dubstep (or in this particular case, 'brostep') having lost most of its popularity in the mainstream. There are enjoyable moments sparsely scattered throughout the record but even those are cringe worthy and not worth the listen.

1.5 very poor | Hanusko | October 22nd 16 | Light 1.5 - Always considered KoRn very pretentious band. But I thought they are sane, after this release I've realized they are insane. Who's stupid Idea was dubstep album, I mean I get it, dubstep is 2010s Nu metal, and when KoRn fell into the ,,forgotten realm'' they had to jump on to something modern, but goddamned this is BAD.

1.5 very poor | Polyethylene | October 19th 16 | A cross-promotion can of energy drink. I'll admit this match made in hell carries some morbid fascination for me. The one
or two faint glimmers of guilty pleasure on here (e.g. the pre-chorus of 'Get Up') prevent me from rating this as a 1.0... as
much as this id-driven, fad-chasing mess might deserve it. This really does represent some nadir of Western culture. I only
wish I hated it more than I do.
Bump |
3.0 good | TheMystical | July 27th 14 | This is actually a really infectious and well executed album. The cold production really does the music justice. People tend to dislike and dismiss albums like these purely based upon accepted musical values. r

3.0 good | NagasakiBomber | December 7th 12 | This is actually not as bad as i recall it being, its a more than listenable release. The metal is still there, Korns vocals are there (more than most wub wob wub wab wubstep can be said of) its a decent release

1.0 awful | AlbumReviewMan | March 24th 12 | first off, I don't even understand dubstep. it's a new type of music that's been around. if heavy metal is gonna go dubstep, then we're all screwed. then some true metalheads better get the band together to stop this and contain this dubstep. this album shows KoRn going dubstep, an absolute disappointment. KoRn is well known for their nu metal roots with like Follow the Leader, Life Is Peachy, Take A Look In the Mirror and other albums and bands such as Limp Bizkit. this is a poor album, I don't like any of the songs off this album. it has nothing good. it goes nowhere, does nothing. absolute disappointment. and The Path of Totality wasn't really that anticipated either.

0.0 | moshpotatoes | December 1st 11 | It's really not that bad. I just can't believe that this is their new album, is this really the new style they plan on being? I can see if this was a side project that they were experimenting with, but to say that this is their brand new album that they been focusing on to fight and get back the prestige or respect that they use to once have? I don't think so.
