4.5 superb | joplinpicasso | December 10th 11 | Mammoth and glacial, like the The Social Network soundtrack and NIN's Ghosts on crack.

4.0 excellent | AlexTM510 | December 11th 11 | For The Social Network Reznor's/Ross's attempt at a soundtrack was quite successful. The claustrophobic feel of the pieces fit very well with the context of the movie. But outside of that it felt a tad bit one dimensional with it's sounds and textures. The duo improve upon that experience with their second go at it on the The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack. Clocking in nearly at three hours: TGWTDT soundtrack is a monstrous listen. But this time, Reznor/Ross really strike a core of balancing the experimentation of Ghosts with the thread consistency of TSN. Thus, making this their best take on moody soundtrack music yet. Oh, and the Immigrant song cover kicks ass, but you already knew that.

4.5 superb | Geist | December 11th 11 | Though sometimes dragging at points, this soundtrack stands as a testament to Reznor & Co's continuing creativity and their minimalistic overthrow of hackneyed orchestral soundtracks the world over. Equal parts breathtaking and deeply disturbing, this behemoth will freeze you to the core.

2.5 average | jday | November 5th 12 | Yes, the soundtrack fits the low-key tone of the movie to a tee. As a soundtrack it fits perfectly to the visuals with all it's dark and ominous tones. This of course, is the sole purpose of a soundtrack, and with that in mind, this soundtrack works wonders. But as an album, it fails to capture the subtle attitude present in The Social Network. The songs lack any real intrigue or interest, unlike The Social Network, there's nothing noticeable or even worth listening to. With that said, the song covers at the very beginning and end, recorded for the opening and closing credits are amazing. Karen O is in typical form, but Mariqueen Maandig needs a shout out. She sings with so much emotion, it's too bad she isn't like that on the How to Destroy Angel's albums.

4.5 superb | SlowlyFallingAwake | March 13th 12 | Something about this... atmosphere. It makes me feel paranoid, angsty, self-conscious... I've heard many albums that can make one experience(teenage) angst, I've heard others that are embarassing (lyrically or just because of technical incompetence) and make one feel awkward, but I've never actually become paranoid while listening. For that alone, it deserves at least a 4. Overall, tracks are very strong and can each be listened to as stand-alone pieces, but obviously, you would need the entire album to experience the spectrum Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross were going for... There is so much variety and just brilliant musicianship going on.

4.5 superb | alextheantichrist | December 14th 11 | Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have done it again but only this time, they have 3 hours of music involving a lot of chimes and other metal objects to make sounds. The drums I would describe on here have a hallow vibe to it. There's also flutes that sound like they've come from some sort of ancient culture. There is a lot of variety mostly going back to Trent and Atticus' work on the social network and NIN work. It's a mix between all of them and it's pretty creative. My favorite tracks on here are obviously "Immigrant Song (Cover From Led Zeppelin)", "She Reminds Me of You", "What If We Could?" and "One Particular Moment". If you have 3 hours to kill, I recommend this.
