4.5 superb | barr27 | December 9th 07 | When someone told me about Nada Surf I didn't know what the hell they were talking about. Being that I was born in 1989, I was unaware of the early 90's indie/rock scene, where great bands came to be such as Nada Surf. Thus I had to pick up Let Go.
They say not to judge books by their cover, but with cd's i think it's okay to some extent. It is because of this that I picked Let Go over The Weight is a Gift, and I'm glad i did so.
The first track Blizzard of 77' sold me. This short accoustic song is filled with awesome lyrics that really make you think about life, and are impossible not to sing to. You'll soon probably notice that this is a recurring aspect in their other songs as well. From then on the whole album is comprised of heart felt songs such as Happy Kid, Hi-Speed Soul, The Way You Wear Your Head (which resembles Snow Patrol in a good way), and Treading Water. All of these are filled with upbeat electric guitar riffs, and soft yet meaningful lyrics that make you think. It's like a good movie, where you are quite satisfied the first time you see it, but are infatuated to the point where you must decipher the meanings in the lyrics. Between these songs are the more down-beat/chill songs. The several which really stand out are Inside of Love, Blonde on Blonde, Killians Red, and La Pour Ca (italian i believe?). These tracks provide the same feeling of the upbeat songs in an ambient type of way that has you listening to them over and over. Amongst the catchy/simple guitar licks, and the relatable lyrics from songs, such as Inside of Love, where you think every line is narrating your life, you will then have yourself a personal favorite as i did. Though if you are looking for creative music that offers a variety of sounds, then this is also for you.

0.0 | ihaveabrownhat | January 2nd 08 | the vocals and effects on Fruit Fly are pretty crazy, i feel. actually, i did listen to this song over and over and over. but that was mostly because i was on an airplane and this was the only thing on my iPod at the time. But of all the 12 tracks on it, i listened to that one the most, which i feel says something. not a lot, but something. anyway, it's pretty good stuff.
