Tical was the first Wu-Tang solo album by perhaps it's most accessible member. While Meth has always stood out from his Wu-Tang counterparts, he still managed to fit in well, and this is one of the most "Wu" sounding of all their work. Meth is not blessed with the lyrical skills of guys like Ghostface, GZA, RZA, Inspectah Deck, etc., but he's got an undeniably catchy flow. His lyrics come off more as freestyle type raps, basically battle rapping, but RZA's dark, sinister production gives those lyrics much more of a punch than they could have. The beats are reminiscent of the pissy staircases that were a staple of their videos at the time. While there aren't alot of standout songs (except for the 2 huge singles, Bring the Pain and All I Need), the album creates a vibe and works well as one piece. It's not as good as Ghost and GZA's debuts, or some of Ghostface's later solo works, but Tical earns it's place as one of the landmark Wu-Tang albums.

The first solo album to come out of the Wu-Tang canon, Tical showcases the reefer loving Method Man breaking out in a tumble of murky beats and raw atmosphere. RZA's beats are less bare than on 36 Chambers, but often don't define anything notable. At least Meth's smooth flow and uniquely slurred voice fits the album's washy griminess when the album is hitting sweet spots. On the first listen Tical seems to come close to other Wu solo releases like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..., but the album's instant appeal only slides with repeated plays.
