Simply put, Abba Gold is stuffed with pure pop glee. "Waterloo" is perhaps the highlight of the upbeat dance numbers, but it has stiff competition - "Take A Chance On Me", "Mamma Mia", "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)", and "Money, Money, Money" are all more than capable of filling a dancefloor with both nostalgic mums and ironic indie kids who desperately want to hide the fact that their love for the music actually isn't ironic at all. It's not all happiness and joy, though - they hit unexpected heights on "The Winner Takes It All" though - a stunning lyric and an atmospheric production make this perhaps the band's most enduring song. Certainly their best.
There's surprises in store for those who didn't realise how talented the BB contingent really were, too. The guitar playing on "Chiquitita" is genuinely lovely, and the song has an almost medieval feel to it. The opening riff on "Voulez Vouz" is verging on Bowie-esque. And people tend to forget dark some of the music to "Gimme!" really is, particularly the intro, which could be co-opted for a gothic power ballad. The rest sounds not unlike Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds.
ABBA - the best singles band of all time? A highly contentious point, obviously. But ABBA Gold proves that they've got credentials as good as anyone.

Even a cold-hearted, self-centered millennial piece of shit like me who listens to very little these days besides brooding metal and misogynistic rap can find something to like here. Maybe you had to grow up with it, but as far as I'm concerned you'd have to be the true embodiment of pure evil and an asshole not to enjoy this.

If Lemmy was brave to admit he was an Abba fan, I suppose I can do the same. However, my love for these ebullient Swedes is probably limited to a few of their more popular staples. Their 1992 compilation GOLD neatly compiles the best of the best along with a few second string hits. It's a tasty indulgence at first, but could lead a diabetic coma if you try to consume this whole album in one sitting.

ABBA's success was to play it safe and make a few hits along the way. These are all the hits from all the albums that you need to hear. An essential collection for anyone into pop, disco, and anyone willing to make number one hits.

Yeah, ABBA are cheesy and everything, but this collection is great. Probably the only ABBA album you should own, it gives a nice slice of their biggest hits, with the top of the pack being "Dancing Queen", "Voulez-Vouz" and "Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!"

i hesitated to give a compilation the classic rating, but hey, considering almost every song on this album is truly great, i simply couldn't resist. some people may find some songs a bit too "Schlager", and its the only album i own, that even my grandmother would listen to enthusiastically. The albums flow is perfect, unlike other bestofs, where half of the songs don't fit because the where written in a different period.

ABBA gold is one of ABBA's best albums. As everyone knows it was made into a broadway musical called "Mamma Mia" which is one of ABBA's hits on this album. Soon it became a movie and everyone got lost in the catchy toons and the beats and lyrics. This whole Album makes you want to get up and dance to all the fun.
