doing a discog binge and my feelings on this and vulnerable basically completely switched
this albums like probably not good but they get to flex their pop sensibilities which results in an album of mostly earworms that are at least pleasant to listen to when your brain is off
vulnerable is so fucking bad tho lol
|

skipped this but vulnerable has bangers galore

or it did however many years ago

this has like 6 songs i like, which is more than vulnerable’s 1
tho i come alive is an absolute banger. then the rest happens lmao

Ok, I will check this at some point to compare
but
Shine is a huge guilty pleasure, Hands and Faces kinda slams a little bit, Hurt No One is classic Used, Now That You're Dead is kinda fun trash and I guess This Fire is ok

the canyon was wicked tho. justin rlly helped breathe new life into these guys shame he got kicked from them and saosin guy is so dope
|

Damn never checked the Canyon beyond a couple of ok singles either :[ and yeah lol Hurt No One is the only one of those songs I'd seriously defend, think they nailed their kitsch emo/entertaining rock split there

ill give that song another try i guess but it felt as lazy and uninspired as the rest of the album but that could just be track placement or smth ill listen to it on its own i guess and see if it holds up
canyon is tight easily the best since artwork also even tho its production is kinda wack its tight to hear them not with feldy
reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally wish they werent going back to him for this new album literally any other producer would be better (also they def shouldnt have kicked justin but at this point i just wish justin eventually comes back to saosin for whatever they do next)

The Canyon has grown to become my favorite Used album, and also just one of my favorite albums ever. For me, it's that good.
I feel like Vulnerable was trying to repeat the successes of Lies for the Liars. On Imaginary Enemy I do get that they're able to practice their pop sensibilities but that doesn't mean it's entertaining. Half of it is boring, lifeless tracks that don't demonstrate the energy level that The Used are known for.
That being said there are a couple of bangers here. I still dig Revolution, Cry, Make Believe, Evolution and the t/t. And my god Kenna Song is still complete garbage.

Listened to this in full recently and it is so difficult to get through. Album peaks way too early and even the high aren't all that fantastic. The lyrics are the worst part though. Bert was very obviously outside of his comfort range and doesn't quite nail the tongue and cheek side of it. "No way USA" is shockingly bad.

After hearing the new single, I’ve been trying to figure out what exactly fell apart for me with this band. I LOVED their first 3 and Shallow Believer and liked Artwork, but for having so much potential, i can’t figure out why they turned to such crap for me.
But i think Neko^ made it click in my head. For me, the more seriously they take their music, the better it comes across. With it feeling like they write everything around the themes in Bert’s lyrics, and oftentimes from a pop perspective in their later career, it makes them hella suck. Like, Bert’s the focal point, and when he sucks, they all do. And catchy alt-rock suits them, pop rock does not, and they don’t do that very well either but keep trying
