third time seeing them last night and easily their best performance! Both backup singers had COVID though so the backing track sufficed

I’ve never heard of these guys before and this came up as a Spotify recommendation. I’m mystified as to why they market this as a black metal album because I enjoy it for what it is. It sounds like a mashup up folk/gospel tinged indie rock like hozier, broken era NIN, and a bunch of nu metal and metalcore tropes.

There’s a bunch of obvious influences, and other than a few blackgaze style trems the “black metal” and “avant- garde” labels are false advertising.I caught you drops straight into a riff from the first burn the priest album in the middle. There are a couple of rhythms that sound like they came off a foo fighters album, and another percussion section at one point that sounds like squalor victoria. Golden liar goes full spaghetti western. To me the low points of the album are when it drops into opposite of december-core chugs in some of the verses

This is a reasonably entertaining driving album with a bunch of good hooks but unfortunate lyrics. They should lean into their poppy influences more with the marketing and embrace selling themselves based on what they’re actually good at

they are nice guys and I would totally be happy for them if they sellout tbh. I saw them at ATG and it was the dumbest pit of the festival, there were people that were obviously there just for them almost, they had as many people as the headliner and they were on the second stage, they will just get bigger imho.

I'm sure they're nice dudes and I've nothing against their success/have no personal stake in this game, just don't really get a sense of consistency here or anything that makes them particularly unique.

You're right in that they really need to drop black metal; it's not doing any favors here.

New one is... Bad, aside from some of the singles and a couple tunes here and there. I like the ballads more than whatever else they're trying to do
