lol yeah and only star wars takes can derail a sput thread faster hahaha

I’ve yet to give this album a full listen. Tf is wrong with me. Its predecessor was one of my top favorite albums from the year and I still go back to it occasionally. Will listen to this REAL SOON.

Yeah, their best since HV imo

I'll Still Destroy You is amazing, likely the most underrated National track at this point. Can't believe it hasn't become a live staple.

I like how there’s a disconnect between the vocals and instrumental at first, like the song takes shape as it goes on

but also the chorus just hits

This one def grew of me over time (can’t help but hear Day I Die as a knockoff Mr November) but yeah destroy you is a lovely little long. good memories of drinking chilled white wine, stringing holiday lights around someone’s patio, and listening to this album
that newest song tho, the one that mournfully namedrops blue American spirits in the opening lyric, I’m sorry but I had to lol my way away

new national sucks, i can barely get through any songs after this album. this album is mostly good but kinda feels like the beginning of the end

revisiting this one now and it’s got some clunkers. both of the new songs are vastly better than Born To Beg

first half of this has some dreadful stuff. Day I Die, Turtleneck and Born to Beg are all painful
|
| |
Album Rating: 4.0
Day I Die is not dreadful but is one of their weaker uptempo rocky songs

the concept of a National song with a guitar solo, prior to hearing it, would probably be nightmare inducing, but the solo on System is money. actually really really good. idk who in the band plays what but it can’t be the same guy that played on Wasp Nest right

ok System is actually amazing all around how did I not notice this until now wtf
