Always listen to the new tracks so I know whether I have to prepare myself for disappointment

Hearing new material without the necessary context (especially if expectations are high) can lead to disappointment my lad.

The new record is quite good. Gotta love that bass sound.

Seemed a bit idk 'streamlined' on first impression, I'm slightly underwhelmed. Hopefully it'll grow.

Yup I get that, Nocte's soundoffs perfectly summarizes it. But the bass + some epic solis sold me nonetheless.

Welp, since it's not gonna land high, might as well compile my year list
|

man I've never listened to them before but this new record is an easy 4. probably a top three bm album for me this year alongside abigail williams and mayhem. surprised it's not off to a stronger start. I find this so much more interesting than Misthyrming, Falls of Rauros, etc

Yep. New one is quality.

@butt: definitely check this one/Carrion Skies. I really dug the FoR record, but honestly this album is way better. Misthyrming doesn't come close. Hopefully the new one will grow on me.

'heard band is good'
You heard correctly - this is a one of my absolute favourite atmo-black albums (or albums in general)... my opinion on the new one is still pending for now however.

the new one is a lot more streamlined - i'd argue less ambitious, but that's pretty smart. there really wasn't anywhere the band could go from here. they could hardly get denser or more ambitious than this.
it's an album full of wonderful harmonies and soundscapes though - a lot of the melody is conveyed with the soaring, reverby clean guitars rather than prominent riffs. it certainly isn't a follow up to this, more like a sidestep. taking that into context it becomes far more enjoyable.

yall keep saying the album is streamlined, what does this even mean in the context of music? I've never heard this used to describe an album before but I've heard it 3 times today regarding this one

Big fan of the new album so far

I’m still lukewarm to the new one, these guys may have lost their unique selling point in my mind. It feels like I could be listening to numerous other bands. This sounds apocalyptic in comparison, the compositions are dense and interesting, plus I feel it has more bite, but that might be my imagination idk.
