I dunno, octagon, but I'm admittedly biased. Meeting Reinert was one of my life highlights. That meant so much to me as both a longtime fan and as someone struggling with sexuality/identity issues. What a good man ;~;

I used to have this at a 4, but a 3.5 seems right these days. Definitely better than Kindly Bent imo, but still doesn't remotely touch the band's first two albums

honestly think they werent the same without jason gobel, even portal has that mystical element thats lost as soon as he fucked off
traced is still great tho in a different way

Yeah, I really wish we got more material from Portal. Their sound was so fascinating and otherworldly, even more than what was heard on Focus

All is flux, nothing stands still

While they may have lost that touch of the otherworldly since Gobel, I think they regained some of that here. Not in the same way, but something weird and otherworldly definitely is happening on here that wasn't present for years

Aurora is absolutely incredible.

Aurora is such an awesome track, I listened to it so many times when the album first came out. I revisit this pretty often and it still holds up after 50+ listens. Since its on the shorter end of the spectrum I usually have the time to rip through it in its entirety while sitting in traffic on the way home

@stormchaser yup

The bounciness of The Winged Ones is sooo good. Btw I just discovered that the instrumental version of the album has way healthier mastering and is a total joy

I've come to really dig this album, and all the SF motifs and robo-vocals add to its proggy-metal goodness. Broke down and picked up the vinyl recently.

Album is a bit underwhelming in the morning but try putting this on at night as you fall asleep. It's a whole new experience.

I just want Paul to keep making music if it will be on this level, he clearly has much more to give us in this niche of metal. It will be interesting to see if they make anything with Phelps doing the harsh vocals, I for one love the sprinkled in growls on Traced in Air so much and think it adds excitement to their stuff. There was a hint of a growl on one or more tracks on this album and I immediately wanted more, it's just so fitting
