Very underrated album. I remember seeing them at ozzfest 2002 and being intrigued by their guitarist, who was clearly above the rest of the pack and had a very unique style. Sure enough Dominic cifarelli shows up in guitar one magazine a couple months later on the cover with John Mayer. I've always thought of the album as progressive alt metal, if that's a thing. Build your cages is sick and despot has an infectious chorus. Imo they pushed the wrong song at ozzfest and missed an opportunity to survive with bands like nonpoint and their devoted fan base. I believe Dominic showed up in daron malakian's band later on.

This isn't nu-metal, but it's pretty damn good.

I'll never quite understand why this band never got that extra push into stardom. Granted, the hard rock/nu-metal scene was quite over-saturated in 2002. But damn, this album is arguably the best to be constructed during that time, and most people haven't even heard. Quite demoralizing if you ask me.

agreed, definitely one of those albums that whooshed over people's heads like some faint-ass inaudible whisper. a real shame really for this album is pretty damn good and contains some solid songwriting.

I agree. Very, very good.

Every genre has bands / albums that transcend the norm, and this album is one of my go-to pieces of evidence that nu-metal spawned a lot of really interesting bands. And I'm starting to think that those bands should just have their own genre ("alt metal" might work). LD50, 30STM debut, A Snow-capped romance and so on.

bi-annual bump to attempt to get more people to listen. Just unfairly slept-on. Like fuck its a crime.

Great record. Guitar work, rhythmically speaking, is way more exciting than in most early 2000s alt-metal records, songwriting is great throughout and the lyrics and vocals have the necessary amount of angst
