Finland was actually really great for old school death metal. Modern metal in general sucks, so it's cast some negative light on that area. Check out Purtenance - Member of Immortal Damnation, Rippikoulu - Musta Seremonia, and, although not from Finland but Iceland, Sororicide - The Entity.

hey mugwump what would be the best The Residents album to get first?

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen is their best and one of their more accessible. Fingerprince and The Commercial Album are also great.
