What person can Birdland not get in a good mood? The answer is no one. It's just to upbeat.
But I think personally my favorite song on this album is A Remark You Made. (Wayne Shorter what a beast)
I am happy to see a review made by someone who isn't bias towards Jaco. Even thought I am very happy with Jaco's playing.
4.5 star review!

An absolutely amazing album. A very good and precise review written above. I was very glad to hear such praises for "A Remark You Made". Not my personal favorite but I have to say it is so well done, and the placement on the album right after "Birdland" really catches your attention. To go from a song so light and upbeat to a song so serious and real like "A Remark You Made" really makes for an interesting contrast that cannot be ignored. Shorter nails it. I would love to see what Jaco would be doing to day if he were here. This Message Edited On 10.30.06

Birdland is awesome I drummed on it with our school jazz band.

hmm... I hate some of the synth Zawinul sounds, but it wouldn't've been so revolutionary without it.
Also, if this band had come in any other era/decade it would be a failure for the mainstream music scene ...but I still would've liked them if i was around

this is not jaco's first album with weather report. he appeared on two tracks on heavy weather (which was a superior album as well)

This album introduced me to jazz. I bought it in 1981, the day of my eighteenth birthday.
It's now collecting dust with my collection of vinyl.
'Birdland' rules. That's all I remember.

I'm guessing you meant black market?
I found this a little too cheesy for my liking, especially some of the synths. maybe I'll get past that one day. some of the tracks remind me of squarepusher's early stuff.

ugh I love Jaco and all the musicians here are so talented, but so much fusion is just cheesy and boring. So much wasted potential here.
