I like this, but it's just too upbeat compared to what they used to do.
The private stream that we had of this had comments from the various members and each song seemed to have a theme of "restraint" on the part of each member. Trying not to do anything that would start shit between other members. A few songs had the guitar player literally saying something like "I didn't even know if he would sing on this song" or something similar. I don't know - hopefully they'll get comfortable with each other and their past sound before the next album.

I just want them to tour the UK again cause I wasn't into them last time they were over.

this album is pretty weird. 'Deafening' sounds like it could have been a Breaking Benjamin song. what's interesting though is that they definitely couldn't have done that during 'Water & Solutions'. pretty big change.

Yeah, they probably couldn't have made that at the time. I still think that this feels like they were being a bit too conservative.
I do miss the "Tin Cans With Strings" style of song, too.

cited by bands such as Thursday and Blink-182
I've read interviews with the Deftones and they even cited Far as a huge influence to their newer albums.

Always been a fan of this band so I will check this out. Excellent review.

Tin Cans is a lot better than Water and Solutions in my opinion. This is alright I guess but music kind of moved on a lot and it's a little overproduced for a Far record and that kind of strips it of the raw emotion which is why you'd listen to Far to begin with.
Lyrically as well Tin Cans is a really dark/deep record, they stepped away from that with Water and Solutions and this is kind of manufactured sadness to me.

So this is really good... curious the first place I heard of Jonah was from Lupe Fiasco's first album and it sounded really mellow, so I was really surprised with how heavy the album seemed at first, but that's what I like!

Deftones and Far have been friends since back in the 90's... So it ain't like Chino picked up W&S before they did the last album or anything. Post-HC/emocore was always a major component of their sound, they also just happen to exemplify the stupidity of the industry's bandwagoneering in the way they were pushed as a nu-metal band. It's fucking funny looking back on that era.
PS. This is a bad album.

This is pretty pants........Doesn't capture the beautiful melancholy that makes Far so great. It's.......nauseating.
