Yeah you might, like I said it's very different to Relativity and the vocals are a real stand out, probably my favourite of all of his vocal performances.

Agree with Lucidity, Downtown Battle Mountain is definitely the best album tied to Johnny Craig. DGD's original crew was the only band who had musicians who stood up to his talent.

I get that he's a dick, I saw them in a small venue and he was a total arrogant tool. I did, however, stand with him at a show in a larger venue when they supported You Me At Six during the latter's set and he was being way cool. Did he do anything specific to the DGD guys?

aha yeah, I think it was just his general dickheadedness that got him booted tbh.

I was just thinking that the other day! Imagine how popular they would be with all the other bands they play with haha

So, what's the story behind rumors of this guy being an asshole?
|

Album Rating: 4.0
Hahaha, those guys would be a hoot, I'm sure.
They aren't rumours, he is just a straight up asshole. He's known to be arrogant and self righteous and this is evident even in his interviews.

Supposedly it's a combination of all the above plus the fact that he would get drunk and become worse than he already is.
Still not sure what I think of this album, it may need to grow on me but so far noting special.
Willie - You'll probably like Downtown Battle Mountain by DGD. That album shits all over all recent Emarosa and Dance Gavin Dance stuff.

im a pretty big jonny craig fan, didnt know this album was out. downloading it now, from the two songs i listened to it sounds good. as far as jonny craigs attitude goes, i think it really depends on which jonny craig you are talking to. i used to be on staff a local music venue and had the pleasure of booking the original DGD lineup. They were all really humble and jonny was generally a nice guy to be around. however i learned later on that apparently jonny was (is?) addicted to some hard drugs and that he was using the bands money to buy drugs, which is why they kicked him out. i imagine he was a very different person sober, which is probably when i talked to him.

Okay, wow, people actually listen to Dance Gavin Dance? Jesus Christ.
Jonny Craig is a brilliant vocalist, and he was a pretty nice dude when I met him back in February - I saw them twice. The two songs I've heard from this are great, can't wait to hear it.

disappointed by this album. i will listen to it a few more times before i rate it, but it didn't do anything for me when i listened to it the first time. relativity lacked enough choruses but some hooks that were catchy as hell. This album has an abundance of choruses, but I can't remember a single one. I'm not gonna pretend I know Jonny, but I think it's safe to say he has a drug problem. Maybe he has personality issues but I think he's just trolling most of the time at no real cost to himself. DGD are good and were good from the beginning. But Kurt's technique is his downfall. He is amateur at best.

Pretty enjoyable record and excellent review. I pretty much agree with most of your points. It's definetly become the jonny craig show but that isn't really a bad thing per say...I do wish they could have experimented more with the guitars...As far as best song overall musically, I'd say 'Truth Hurts' because all the instruments shine and jonny's voice sounds tooooo pretty! haha!
