Great review and to the point.
This album is boring and tedious beyond belief. I couldn't believe my ears when I was listening to it yesterday.
Now Megadeth should make a project with Tom Waits called Megatom and titled "Symphony of Self-Destruction."

Actually, those last two would be pretty awesome.

xfearbefore might be one of the few here with a triple digit IQ.
I decided to get past my initially unfavorable response on first hearing Lou Reed, and have just listened to this whole CD and I found a mix of emotions in it. Every time James came on vocals I thought it was great. There's some good riffs and atmosphere in here. A lot of the lyrics made me crack up. Lou Reed is a fucking genius. He's managed to verbally hit the nail on the head of many women I have been with.
I really don't know what to rate this but this most definitely is not a poor or average album, and this most definitely is not worse than St. Anger. This also is not an album to digest in one listening, or even two or three.

As an aside, personally I'm a huge Metallica fan and quite the apologist for them. I love all the albums bar St. Anger (which, even then, has a few decent moments) but Lulu is just...not good.

NME's 'first listen' article for this album is atrocious. Why are such bad writers allowed to wreak havoc on the world: http://www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=140&title=lou_reed_and_metallica_lulu_first_listen&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

This isn't a music album to me. This is a work of art...with music. That's what people aren't understanding.

Mate, it's a disjointed dirge. I know the term "art" can be applied very liberally, but this is a misfire of embarrassing proportions.

This didn't misfire on me. I've never heard Lou Reed so when I first heard him I was like "wtf?". When I gave this album a chance and listened to the lyrics, I found that he hit the nail right on the head on many aspects of women I have been with. The music is a backdrop to his storytelling, and it isn't bad music.

all the post-modern anti-music crap in the world can't measure up to how mediocre and unnecessary this album is

You've never heard of Lou Reed?
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side...

Artists don't do stuff for your approval. I think Metallica, and Lou Reed in this case, has made that clear. They do it because they want to and it makes them feel good to do it. I'm glad they do. I know; I am an artist and have been for 30 years. This is unnecessary to you, but not to me, perhaps not for others, and maybe not for Lou Reed and Metallica. I am not a Metallica fanboy, either, and I haven't cared about what they do in almost 20 years.

I have heard *of* Lou Reed, I have never *heard* Lou Reed.

You must've heard a Lou Reed song before and not known.

This is a staff review so I won't shit it up. All I can say more is give it a chance, you may like it you may not. This isn't everyone's cup of tea for sure. I can understand the hate on it, but I can appreciate it for what it is. Will this get played often by me? No. This to me is more of an album to reflect on pass relationships and the nature of some women.

Awesome review. Loved reading it!
Album sucks so hard.

I'm usually the first one to scream "it's only just been released, give it time to grow!"
But this...this just has to be a joke...
