fuck this band after move along

Yes folks, The All-American Rejects have indeed moved along.
Look at Davey, pulling a Crandy.

Staff, are we, Mr. Davey?
Another good'un from you, mate. I lost interest in the band when I heard "Move Along", though.

Everything on here builds so pleasantly. Also "Fast & Slow" is just plain odd.

Great review. I was actually waiting for someone to review this album, and figured it'd be you when I saw it up yesterday.

Goddammit Santi and every other album you listed kicks this one in the face. Well maybe Move Along is close to this but still a tad better, haven't heard it entirely. I think I'd prefer recommendations to be albums similar in quality or actual sound to this, rather than 'influences' that the band 'borrowed from' in strange and uninteresting ways. On the other hand your list might steer people to better music...
This is just so mind-numbingly boring. There's no sincerity in any part of the album. I kind of hope it fades into oblivion. Already got tired of the 'catchy' songs by the first or second listen.
At least it's not as disappointing as Taking Back Sunday or Say Anything but that's only because there were no expectations. Well maybe something interesting, just one song on par with 'Swing Swing', rather than this... commercial indie thing trying to call itself 'post pop punk' or something.

I had Dirty Little Secret in my head for years, aside from that I want no part of this band. I will stray from this album.
:P

Is this worth a shot?

Listen to their old songs instead
Beekeeper's Daughter had good vocals but the LA DADA DADA killed me ugh
I'd rather listen to Simple Plan
|
| |
Or listen to old Biffy Clyro, so good

welp.
i listened to Move Along like in the 5th Grade.....thought it was pretty good back then.
but now, I see that same record as ultra-produced, adult contemporary.
I'm assuming it's only gotten worse in the last 7 years.

Thanks Ali. Interested to know what you end up thinking of it.
"Everything on here builds so pleasantly" Well said Adam. It's just a matter of people getting their heads around it being this band that is pulling it off.
Well, Skoopy hates this band & gave the album a 4. Obviously a pleasant surprise.
Thanks TooLateToGoBack. It actually was not an easy album to review.
Yeah mastille, I try to get the balance with my Recos. Comparitive quality is something not high on my list of priorities when I choose those albums though, it's more the style of sound I guess. I do actually think that an album like 'Santi' is roughly the same style. And boy, does Ritter sound like Adam Lazzara on the opener here.
Anyone who wants to give this album a try MUST NOT expect another 'Move Along' re: catchy song after catchy song.

"adam can't sing for shit anymore".
So be it, then 'WyWtB' era TBS.

Santi had boring moments but overall it had a dramatic flair that distinguishes good pop punk bands and other AAR singles from the rest, and that this album lacks. Santi wasn't consistent though, and you have a point - they both share that indie/electronic-influenced direction. I do think they lose a bit of their soul in the process. But may I point out as a part-time Academy Is fan that there aren't songs on this album that compare to Same Blood, Big Mess, Sleeping with Giants, Bulls in Brooklyn...? And the more famous band is...
Well also I really can't fully qualify what makes some indie songs interesting and some not (to me). Depends on the 'energy' level and 'emotional investment' that I see in them, or something...? One day I'll figure out how to better express it.

I don't necessarily disagree with you mastille. Hence why I only rated this a 3 I guess. And I think where I compare the albums is on ambition: TAI went for that "dramatic flair" to break out of their mould, whereas AAR went for subdued build-ups & whetever else you want to call it.
