I guess they could but in context it doesn't seem like that works... you pair 'vapid' with 'overproduced' ... so i assumed you had to be referring to the lyrical content

In Marina's assumedly desperate attempt

In Marina's supposedly (?) desperate attempt...

although (and this is a minor personal thing that you shouldn't read too much into) I don't think (based on your first two paragraphs) that this is something that is impliedly desperate or really desperate at all ... i think it would be better said

In Marina's calculated attempt...

to make them as 'radio-friendly' as possible, songs like 'Homewrecker', 'Power & Control' and 'Lies' end up sounding pretty vapid and overproduced.

[i]to make them as 'radio-friendly' as possible, she ends up undercutting her own (vocals? lyrics? it's your call...)--especially on songs like 'Homewrecker', 'Power & Control' and 'Lies.'[i]

again just trying to be constructive and helpful... suggestions... not saying you need to change anything

Your dissing of Power and Control makes me a sad sad man Ty, but because you dedicated the review to

me I'll overlook it ;-).

The lyrics thing makes for an interesting read, I was going to write a review like this once myself,

but I don't think I could have pulled it off tbh so props for that.

I'd probably put Fear and Loathing above Starring Role, but they'd make up my top 4 for sure.

A good review, however, it reads a little awkwardly at times. You drove your points home and succeeded in the end, but I think I'll offer a counterpoint to this in the coming days.

Also, I'm not sure if you're not-so-subtly trying for attention, but I notice you put yourself down frequently in threads (ie: "I'm just not a very good writer"), and I don't get the feeling that you actually believe what your put-downs. Just my two cents.

I like the review! I just wish you discussed some of the high-points in the album like Fear & Loathing...

'I like the review! I just wish you discussed some of the high-points in the album like Fear & Loathing...'

arguably her best and hardest hitting song so far: 'Fear and Loathing'

;]

I'm not trying to get attention, I purely write because in the end putting out bodies of work is pretty fun. I really don't think my writing is any good but I'm writing to bring attention to the album etc, ...

But thank you and I'm looking forward to your upcoming review

Some minor nibbles:

It feels just like it was just yesterday when the Britpop market started to get flooded with quirky wannabe female pop stars. That's obviously because that trend hasn't changed over the past few years, and they just keep on coming.

Just just just...

it's actually a lot better when you've gotten rid of all those electronic influences

I'd change that to either "when you get rid of", or "when [it's] ridded of"

Otherwise, great work! :]

Any suggestions on how to fix the first 2 sentences you mentioned?

It feels like it was just yesterday when the Britpop market started to get flooded with quirky wannabe female pop stars. Maybe that's because, during the past few years, new ones continuously kept emerging to the foreground.

Or something like that? :]
