New album is 5-worthy

Is it a good place to enter the discog? I've been meaning to get into Nick Cave for a while but have never gotten around to it. (I should probably keep waiting too because I have too many unfinished discogs going right now lol.)

Boney you'd love this, but Abattoir Blues/Lyre or No More Shall We Part would be good starting places too. Murder Ballads or Let Love in are the most universally accepted starting points though. I'd go with No More Shall We Part, many consider that their best, including me.

It's so tough because the discog is so big and it seems like there's a significant faction that considers almost every one of them the best. I'll probably just check the new one since it's new then work my way through the discog the traditional way. Is chronological order reasonable, perhaps?

His early albums are so different from the stuff he makes during the mid-90s onwards though, and the more recent stuff you'll probably dig way more. Whatever you do just don't get turned off of checking out most, if not all his albums at some point because they do change a lot over the three decades.

My blu-ray of 20,000 Days on Earth is still sitting in my house, I still need to watch that, and then this.

I feel like I would love these guys but I've never checked them out.

Ocean check out Murder Ballads and then No More Shall We Part

Talons did you not just recommend I start with No More Shall We Part?

I recommended that based on what I've seen from your music taste, which by my understanding is lots of sad boy indie rock. Ocean listens to tons of gothic metal and random stuff, so I thought Murder Ballads might be a good pick for him given how diverse of a record it is.
It doesn't really matter where someone starts because all of his albums are good, and everyone will have different opinions on each one; someone else might come in this thread and say to start with Henry's Dream or something. I'm just making my recs based on my personal favorites and what I know about what the people asking me enjoy listening to.

Ah I see, didn't realize you were tailoring the recommendations to me/him specifically. You're absolutely right about the sad boy indie rock thing lol.
As I said I'll probably just check the new one but I'll go for No More Shall We part next whenever I delve further.

Murder Ballads is definitely an essential, everyone likes that one a lot. It has tons of hilariously morbid lyrics too.
