Here in Japan digital streaming is a relatively niche service and most people tend to buy albums for 20-30 dollars (equivalent) apiece. Artists typically don't get much exposure unless they appear on the radio, in a TV show, or receive some kind of glitzy label-sponsored introductory advertising. Which is a shame. Eventually Japan will catch up to the rest of the world on music business, but for now the pebbles have barely begun to fall.

Japan's buisness model is one reason why VK companies who try to establish themselves outside Japan struggle really, need to cater to western and Japanese buisness models. It's really nice to see how Japan keep things localised and physical copies thriving (hell singles are just as promoted as the actual albums themselves), only bad thing is that this destroys my wallet haha. Also that 2 song run of Laterality and Strange Attractor is magic, double bass in my J-Pop yes please.
