I came into this accepting I was going to be the only person to be totally mystified with this lol. They're really similar to a lot atmospheric bm bands but they aren't lulling and obnoxiously boring like some of them imo.

True that. A lot of atmobm bands sound like theyre half asleep when they record their stuff, which i can understand to some degree but yeah this is markedly better than average ill give it that. Prolly end up at a 3.5 me thinks. If you love an album, 5 it! Watching people circle jerk over the same bands everyday gets old anyway

"This is good but it doesnt really stand out from the hordes of cookie cutter atmo-bm bands imo"

In originality, no, but in songwriting and cohesiveness it's among the better albums in the romantic black metal genre.

Yeah, it's not particularly original but the songwriting ability is absolutely incredible. Also first time I heard "romantic black metal" as a genre lol.

there's something about their guitar playing (especially the acoustic, slower parts) that always feels original and fresh to me. album is stunning, still trying to decide if I like it better than the light that dwells

i remember reading a review where it claimed that falls of rauros stands out from other folky bm bands because they use american folk rather than european folk i guess, but i really don't know the difference too well to understand that

Never really thought about that, but with that in mind you can kinda hear it on the second half of Warm Quiet Centuries of Rain. It sounds like it could come from Austin Lunn's stash of Kentucky fried riffs.

it's funny you should say that because I definitely get some Autumn Eternal vibes in certain spots on here

Gameofmetal, remind me to hit you up about my new album. It's based on Native American mythology so I made a conscious effort to use American folk, with cleanly picked harmonies and blues scales rather than chordal strumming and classical progressions.

If you want a really true American folk inflected honestly Nechochwen. Absolutely stunning.

I mean these guys rule and all but a 5 just like that?

But yeah this also seems a little rushed as well as in "essay-ese". Verbosity isnt always a benefit. Hell it's often a detriment to otherwise great works. I kinda lose track of what exactly you are talking about at a couple times in the review.

You got a good review here, but just edit it a little by streamlining your vocabulary and discussing the music in a matter that doesn't fall into hyperbole

This is just my style of writing, it's really ingrained in me. Besides this is the only way I can do this justice. I know it's a healthy criticism but if I wrote I'm a different style it just wouldn't feel like my writing, ya know?

I understand, man. I used to write very similar to this (just check my first 4 or so reviews).

Im just letting you know that there are some pitfalls to this style of writing. The bigger the statement you make, the more you have to go in order to prove your argument. Also, make use of the proofreading thread in the forums. Its always helpful no matter how good of a writer you are

Last time I used it I got literally no feedback. Even after a solid week or two, nothing. I guess I'll give it a second chance however.

Yea the forums are completely useless around here. Just proof read it yourself a day later so its not as fresh in your mind and your brain doesn't fill the gaps where errors actually exist. I proof my shit like five times before im pleased with it.

I recently thought about that but then I kind of pulled a snide and put it out because I'm an impatient fucker. I was planning on doing Dzo-nga soon so I'll try giving the review an extra day or two.

You need to shoutbox someone specifically before you just drop it in the proofreading thread or no one will notice. People don't really check it regularly
