I just gave Miss Murder a listen and thought "this is better than I last remember it." Then I put on A Story At Three and Days of the Phoenix. You people try doing what I just did, Miss Murder gave me a good listen but the next two songs literally drained me in and gave me an EXTREME craving for AFI that nothing on this album can deliver.

you're comparing two completely different albums, by essentially two different bands (well, the same band, but they may as well be a different band). It's the same as when Motley Crue released their album with John Corabi...a completely new direction, with a completely new sound...people hated it because it wasn't as good as the albums done with Vince Neil, but you can't really compare them...two totally different entities.

Finally a good review.

I'm tired of listening to other DF members complain about the fact that AFI have changed (again) and overlooking a brilliant album because of it.

When I got this yesterday, I didn't like it very much. But today I got it signed by the four, and for some reason, it sounds better than it did yesterday.

P.S. The guys are nicer than they look like they would be. =)

This cd really grew on me.
I didn't like it at first, but now I think that it is better overall than Sing The Sorrow. Sing the Sorrow had some high points with The Great Dissapointment and The Leaving Song, but I like Decemberunderground more.

^^umm yeah motleyguy... all I was saying on my last post was that this album doesnt have that "magic touch" that I feel in their other albums. Sure, im pretty much comparing two different bands, but the "old" band is a much better listen.

Its good that theyre changing, I wouldnt want another STS. But it feels like they slacked with the musicianship, writing, and lyrics on this album.

Having gotten into AFI a Bit late. (Art of Drowning) I can't say I was fully exposed to their earlier works. That being said. I enjoy this album more and more every time I listen to it. I don't think its as good as Sing the Sorrow, but as previosly stated, they are going in a new direction. Give this album some time to sink in, and listen to it on its own without putting it in reference to there other stuff and its a great album.

^^^Good Points :D

I got into AFI with AoD too, but I own all of their albums, including their EPs (mostly because of my brother), and I've listened to all of them quite a bit.

I gave it a 3.5, it's a decent album, but i'd much rather have gotten Sing the Sorrow instead. I'll just have to get it later.

Decent review.

Very good review, I found it quite similar to my thoughts on this album, though we differ on the song ratings (obviously). I'd say 4.5 on your review.

I may be new to the AFI fandom, but I've got songs from their older albums, so I DO know what they used to sound like. And I'm sorry for those fans hell-bent on hating their new style of music, but that's where I say go back to Linkin Park (yes I liked this group too-even though the style was quite repeatitive) or some other group that keeps the style close together. AFI has changed considerably, yes, but whining about it isn't going to change them back to their old style. Get over it people, the world changes, people change, and so do songs. Suck it up and be mature about it.

I find this album refreshing and I fell in love with it the instant I gave it my full attention (which was after I had browsed the whole CD). Thank you for actually writing a review business-like with non-bashing techniques.
