I just think it takes time to grow on you like all their other albums. The hooks are not obvious and you only come to expect them after a number of listens, melodies in most of the songs here are rather obscure and require multiple listens to appreciate.

Finishing this album felt like a chore - I decided to give it a spin after hearing someone compare a track (can't remember which one) to the Oceansize album, 'Frames'. Not impressed, and a little disappointed given how much I liked The Octopus

Yeh man I tried to listen to it but got bored a couple of tracks in
Feel like they stopped trying to push boundaries after Echo Street

I mean these guys were always good but aside maybe from their self-titled and The Octopus they were never even close to Oceansize, neither stylistically nor sonically.
Knowing that the bands are closely linked (heck, i mean Steve Durose is part of Amplifier for quite a while now), i still don't find them to be that similar.
Also, the 'Size is one of a kind.

I agree the Oceansize comparisons are misguided I hear very little of them in these guys. Maybe I'm hearing it different.
Anyways this album is still pretty meh to me.
