i was going to politely recuse myself from listening to this after him and Panda Bear's latest work (as an aside: jesus did Deakin prove me wrong) but on the strength of this review i've dived in and i regret nothing. really good album so far!!!! thanks jack!!!

Spun this a couple times now. Love the first 3 tracks but it gets really patchy after that. It's definitely much more about the fee than it is actual songs.

When I look at this review and these ratings/comments, I see two types of people: Those who cannot, in the reviewers words, "decipher" these songs, and those who can.

These songs don't seem indecipherable to me. They seem complex, yet pattern driven. If you find them indecipherable, I recommend listening more, or more closely.

There are two types of people in the world: those who can decipher Eucalyptus, and those who cannot.

Surely the phrase is 'there's those who can digest eucalyptus, and those who cannot' 🐨

@mainmast, idk, it's not that I can't decipher this, I just don't have much time for this kind of floaty stuff. I'll listen a few more times in the hope that it grows but in general I prefer directness in songwriting so this may just not be for me. This is almost an ambient album, in a way; perhaps not in sound, but in appeal. The review describes it well.

Sorry Gyro, this is my favourite AnCo release since 'Fall Be Kind', just is.

Biggest criticism of this is it sounds a bit too much like old school AnCo we've heard before...but right now I'd take that.

Avey has always been my favourite, best voice and best musical ear imo

Might drop my rating tbh, for once I agree more with Gyro than Doof.

That said since I still haven't heard the old AnCo stuff I should probably put this away for a while and revisit when I eventually hear that stuff.

To me, this is what Animal Collective sound like.

Like that scene in the Matrix with the white room 'Neo, this is the 'residual self image' of yourself you keep in your mind' - this feels like the 'residual sound' of AnCo that I carry in my head. I love it.
