Funny how it takes often quite a long time to identify, at least in my case, what are the truly great ambient records encountered on the way. The ones that stay sure but also the ones who feel like they've become a small capsized part of your life, as if a map or a web of those scattered memories connected by it... In the case of this record I felt as if it was never gonna stay, yet I also feel now as if I've shared with it for at minimum 4 years, wich is impossible since I got it in 2016... I wonder if that could be it. That sense of losing sense of the relation you even have with said ambient record or something. Hm.
So here's my late night question, how do you guys discern what is a great ambient record ? Especially in the long run.

nah good point!! i'm struggling to answer that question though. i think ambient relies heavily on circumstance and setting, but i am a big dumb idiot and my brain hurts when i try and tackle that question with more thought than is common for a sputnik comment

that is a really good question. it's why even now i'd be wary of reviewing Huerco S.' latest; i don't think it works for me now, but give it time... similarly, a lot of immediately impactful ambient wanes on repeated listens. it's what makes it so special; as someone who consumes a lot of music and often feels the need in an accelerated culture to spout hot takes immediately, it forces one to pause. rejects the temporal paradigm in an interesting way. uhh. time is the only way. it will heal all wounds and wound all heels. so will this.
