got em

Sylvian sure does a lot of other projects, hopefully we'll get another solo album at some point.

he has several demoes floating about though
|
| |
So this appears to mostly be freeform spoken word poetry with some bells going off at random times? This will take time to digest.

don't encourage him, Talons

But it isn't merely "bells going off at random"
you just gotta feel it, man. The story is what matters, the backing is secondary but is important.
And to point out once more, the gaps between albums is nothing new for him. Patience is always rewarded with his fans.

plus if you really need an ~update~ just follow him on facebook or something he doesn't really talk much
|

Yeah I was just surprised at what this was. I'm sure it's good for whatever it's going for and I'll check it out when I have time. I'm just wondering what he'll do next, but like you said fans gotta be patient.

I actually skipped through each song on Manafon recently to see how I felt about it currently, and I actually really liked a lot of it more than I used to

Sylvian is honestly perfect winter music
it evokes the right mood without fail, even the more difficult stuff
|
| |
2000s Sylvian sure cause it's so cold & strange, but his 80s records and Dead Bees are very warm and inviting imo, in the context of that artsy ambient stuff that him and Eno and Fripp were doing.

I'd say Secrets isn't exactly warm, and is relatively harsh for the most part aside from a track or two.
A song with a lyric like "next time I'll break every bone in your body" isn't exactly inviting at all
|
| |
Secrets is very diverse and there's strange moments, but I wouldn't call it harsh, at least musically. There's a lot of 80s pop, jazz, and folk in there, like Orpheus that I find very smooth and enjoyable to listen to. Let the Happiness In is one of his most beautiful and lush songs for example.

but that's two out of nine songs, ten if we include Promise
songs like Maria, The Boy with the Gun, The Devil's Own, and Waterfront are all pretty downbeat and brooding rather than warm and inviting
nothing like a declaration of the death of God to get me all giddy
|
| |
It's a moody record for sure with dark lyrical themes
