Only thing that stuck out about the score was the drums and percussion. Other then that it's as bland and run of the mill as the movie itself.

The Marvel formula has been exhausting for a couple years now. I think I'll avoid this

A lot of film critics saying the movie is a love letter to Africa...well this soundtrack sure ain't, maybe two songs gave me any overt African musical notes.

Predictable mix of phoned in Kendrick and wallpaper R n' B, maybe three decent songs? At a real push.

I remember thinking the music was really good while watching, but by itself isn't all that excellent after the fact. I hope the Phantom Thread soundtrack wins the Oscar, that's some of the best music I've heard in a film in a long time.

Black Panther was a really great comic book movie but I wish it deviated from the tried and true formula that so many blockbusters do since LOTR by having a visually exhausting 40 minute war sequence at the end, even though it was well done and all.

It's one of the better Marvel movies, with a lot of interesting ideas and more memorable score (like the spirit world sequences), upping the costumes, visuals, storyline, and acting compared to a lot of comic book movies. It's no Dark Knight, Logan, or Captain America Winter Soldier though.

If BP got himself in the situation where he could get his eyeballs popped out by Castle it might as well just be time for him to give up and die

@rabid I believe Black Panther and Opps are the only songs that you actually fully hear, plus All the Stars over the end credits. kind of sits very awkwardly beside Ludwig Goransson's score but eh

Punisher always finds a way dudes

i haven't watched the film yet, but i think i might've been mislead over how these songs tie into the film; are they integral to the stage direction? because if they're not, a lot of my interpretations of these songs is wildly off.

personally, if we're considering this a part of kendrick's discography, it would obviously rank dead last, but i think there's enough care for the source material and concept that i would rate it a little bit higher than average. as a continuation of DAMN., i think it's relieving to hear him just making some poppy slappers with comic book allusions without getting too bogged down in saying something about racial politics directly. and certainly, i think i'll be listening to this a lot more than To Pimp a Butterfly honestly.

Yeah lmao he really did

@arcade it sort of sits in a weird halfway point, like stuff like Black Panther and Opps was clearly made to tie into certain moments in the film where they appear, Paramedic! is from the villain's point of view and the annoying spoken "I am T'Challa" "I am Killmonger" that keeps popping up is trying to be some overarching tie-in to the film

on the other hand most of the songs aren't about anything at all really so it's in this grey area where it doesn't work as an album or a soundtrack completely

probably will never revisit three quarters of this again tbh whereas only about a quarter of Butterfly is weak

I thought this was quite enjoyable and relaxing. Also, two staff members baring Twin Peaks avatars? Will there be a showdown to decide who is the ultimate coffee drinker?
