Cool review
Not surprised to hear that Doom is the weak link here after hearing those adult swim tracks last year though

I agree with your rating and most of what you said, but you didn't even mention two thirds of Czarface. This is not a Doom and Deck album. That said, this was kind of disappointing. Everything Czarface has done so far has been fire. And Esoteric is a dope MC.

Ah butch, that'd be perfect

Dude, honestly, the fact that you actually think 7L is an MC goes to show how little you actually know about either of them... Maybe you had a bad experience with a couple of songs from their admittedly average later albums and decided to paint their whole careers with that same unfair brush, but that's pretty weak. 7L is a DJ, good sir, and to call Esoteric a second-rate MC is quite simply demonstrably ignorant. He has so many excellent bars and his flow is excellent, easily the best in AOTP.

do you know what I think is crazy? Norman Mailer had a cameo on the Gilmore Girls playing himself.. I mean, that show was a huge point of empowerment for young women, and Mailer was notoriously horrid to women and stabbed his wife at a party once.. fantastic writer though..

It's crazier that you decided to confidently write a review for this hip-hop supergroup's newest album and didn't even realise that 7L wasn't a rapper. I mean, really? You only devoted a total of 5 words to half of this group...

I think the 'super' part is very tenuous here, my dude.. but you do you..

Glad to see this getting a v. solid review.
Agree with quite a lot of what you've written but even appreciating Doom's aspects are less strong, I have still really enjoyed it. But maybe I'm just less desensitised to the throwbacks as I haven't listened to many of their previous releases.
This is a release where I can only see my rating/opinion dropping over time though

I'm enjoying it. I also enjoyed Every Hero Needs a Villain quite a bit, so this just feels like a continuation of that. Love the track with Open Mike Eagle "Phantoms" as well as "Bomb Thrown."

3.0 is really the worst rating you can give an album

Fair point far as I see, without deck, Czarface would only be released on a sub of a sub of a sub of a minor label anyway. Too bad the album is shit.

Not necessarily, 7L and Esoteric are veterans in the scene and have been heavily involved in the top of the underground, with their solo efforts as well as with AOTP, work with JMT etc. They're big enough to be main features along with Inspectah Deck from Wu Tang, so they're not nobodies. And it's not as if Czarface is on any particularly good label, having released with Brick Records and Silver Age records.

This is like half of a review. I do see your points, but you neglecting to mention half the members of the group seems bizarre at best.

Esoteric is easily one of the best MCs in the AOTP crew. And 7L is a dope producer and DJ. Does anyone know who handle the beats on this? Did Doom contribute as well?
