people thinking this album is great and deserves praise based almost solely on the fact the band reinvented themselves once again
not even remotely the only reason, no
also calling Turner a lyrical genius, I mean
I mean I didn't. I said he was an observational genius which is exactly what he was on WPSTWIN and a pretty common reason that album's heaped with praise a decade late

I’ve done some things I shouldn’t have done.
But I haven’t stopped loving you once’
I’ll take it.

yeah well I've seen it happen a lot these past few days outside sputnik mostly, hence why I didn't quote your review, people pulling the trigger calling it aoty already just because of the stylistic changes and how it will antagonize AM bandwagon fans
not gonna lie I do like this atmosphere, feel like I'll settle on a 3, but idk so far I just feel it lacks a lot of substance

Something that does make me feel bloody uneasy is the critics have got it absolutely spot on. This album has done exactly what they said it would do and created a massive divide.

I don't know where you are finding these people, outside the "twitterverse" where those comments are far more outweighed by the comments about how shit this is. Either way, twitter isn't the best place to gather opinions from.
That being said, this is easily the AOTY for me for now (we'll see what happens come the end of the year, who knows what's gonna come out), and I assure you I wasn't "pulling the trigger early", I heard it a good 5 times before giving it my initial grade of 4.5, and didn't even begin writing my review for this until I was like 8 listens in, at which point I bumped it to a 5, mostly because this is one of only 2 or 3 album this decade that I'd felt a genuine desire to listen to as often.

Never listened to this band.

Fair Fucks.
In all honesty I think this will be viewed as a classic in years to come.

zakalwe, please just don't mention other albums that have had a similarly mixed initial reception, but are now seen as classics, because the "Blasphemy (Martini?) Police" will come around to tell you how this is nothing like any of those records.
