Yo the George Clinton track is one of the worst things I've heard this year
Rest sounded dope tho, esp liked the Anderson .Paak track and Takashi

Great review. I agree that hearing his previous material helps give this context and adds to the intrigue. I imagine (although I don't know) first timers might be left bewildered by some of the choices here. Similarly this record could be divisive for long term fans who wanted him to go in specific (or new) direction, rather than provide us with a summation of his legacy.
Personally I'm enjoying this one rather a lot and I get the impression it could potentially enhance my appreciation for his earlier works.
P.S. I like that Takashi got a special mention, it is indeed excellent.

Nice review.
I’m with the crowd that thinks the first half is hit-and-miss. Everything after Yellow Belly ranges from good to fantastic. This is his third best imo, after Cosmo and UtQC. Hopefully it won’t grow off.

I think Yellow Belly is supposed to be humorous, admittedly someone would have to explain why... it's certainly one of the weaker tracks here. Burning Down the House is fine, quite enjoyable even.
As others have mentioned a lot of the better tracks come later, that opening 'section' is seemingly underrated on the whole though (based on the comments here). 'More' and 'Takashi' alone are worthy of elevating the first half above average, I've seen people that want to completely eliminate half the album which seems odd to me.

That Solange track tho...

Yellow Belly and Burning Down the House are my least favorite ones. The Solange one is probably the best

I haven't listened to anything by Flying Lotus except Cosmogramma, which is fantastic. Guess I better do a full dive in.

If you dont see the beautiful, twisted, obnoxious irony of yellow belly and burning down the house you probably just arent very bright and that's all there is to it
