"Well, good luck. It usually takes me at least three listens to fully appreciate a Swans record. You gonna be there for a while, bud xD"
Yeah...its not that is very deep or layered or anything like that...there s a chill vibe to this...it can work as background but then the dude starts naming all the drugs he can think of lol...yeah aiming at 3.5 here but cpuld see it grow if I commit to the band.
Appologies for derailing the thread.

Excellent review, nice to see all the love this is getting. After one spin this is sounding impressive, Nightwalkers & The Fall are a bit special. Showcasing their creativity here, as you pointed out this is definitely no ‘Mariner without Julie’ follow-up, nor is it in the shadow of Vertikal. Excited to spin again.

Yes, every time these awesome dudes release a new album, I ask myself: "Will this be their first imitator?" But that hasn't really happened so far. Funny, because post-metal is one of the stalest subgenres in the game at the moment.

It's all about the atmosphere. Definitely not the best starting point with these guys. You should've gone for Soundtracks or To Be Kind.

Interesting point, I probably feel that Vertikal could better be described as the shadow to this.

Which is quite the weird place to be isn't it. Like they hinted at what they could do with Vertikal and then actually showed what that was here.

Not a huge prog/sludge metal guy but I enjoyed this a lot. Was bouncing between a 3.5 and a 4.0 most of the time. Went with a 3.5 because I thought the last track was a kind of weak way to end. But a respin could possibly bump this. I think Track 2 (Lay Your Head to Rest) is my favorite right now.

This is barely sludge anymore...I get loads of The Ocean Collective vibes on this.

It’s not that I don’t like the first couple of tracks, but I’d heard The Silent Man before and Lay Your Head to Rest is a precursor of what’s to come. The t/t followed into Nightwalkers is stunning and as far as I can tell it doesn’t let up from there.
I haven’t completed my 2nd listen yet and this is incredibly promising.

'This is barely sludge anymore'
I suppose you're right. What would you call this then? Atmospheric Metal? Progressive Metal? Some combination of subgenres, I suppose.
