Broken needle though.

I don't think the lyrical criticism is unfounded, personally. I found some of the verses to be trite and cliched.
That said, I don't come to Marilyn Manson for life changing lyrics.

Dunno man, the lyrics on holywood are sharp as hell — really well developed themes imo. Think I’m more grateful he isn’t talking about pussy and blow here haha

lol me too, and I'm not as into Manson as you are so perhaps I'm underselling him as a writer (especially in his back catalogue). But stuff like "Don't chase the dead or they'll end up chasing you" and "Do we get what we deserve? Or do we deserve what we get? Steal from the last, fuck the past / Here is your present, let's take the future" just feels clunky and embarrassingly simple.
It hardly hinders my enjoyment of the record, but yeah, maybe that's just not my preferred style of lyrics. It's one of my only knocks on this, if not the only one.

Splitting hairs though really, because I enjoy this a ton and feel like I'm gonna be spinning it nonstop at least until Halloween.

Really dig Don't Chase the Dead, Infinite Darkness, Solve Coagula and Red Black and Blue so far. His lyrics were one of the band's strengths in their hey days. Since Eat Me Drink Me, he sank into a teenager depression that he finally managed to tone down a bit.

Yeah, pretty much ins. Totally fair critique sow, I’m not really defending the lyric writing here as being amazing, but in terms of what we’ve been getting from him since golden age, it’s not all that bad.
Like ins said, the lyrics were a big draw in their early days, now Manson just seems to rely on great songwriting. Be nice to get the best of both worlds though

Manson was never really a good lyricist even if we take into account trilogy. I'd say it's serviceable though and he can output some clever lines from time to time. His lyrics on this are still leagues above some of the bottom barrel stuff like grotesque and high end of low.

Good review. Album is surprisingly good.

Just today saw Evan Rachel Woods' testimony regarding how manipulative, abusive, and straight-up sociopathic manson was to her and other partners of his. Never really had much interest in Manson but I certainly don't anymore

oooooh a 4.7 for a new Manson album? Now I'm excited!

Last thing I expected in 2020 is to enjoy a new Marilyn Manson album.
But here we are.

Goddamn this is incredibly good. His best since Holywood — I would say it’s almost on the level of Antichrist, Mechanical Animals and Holywood actually. Completely blindsided.

I'm very happy to learn Juan Alderete played the bass on this. I wasn't too sure at first, because he had that accident, but songs like "Keep My Head Together" have his slides all over it.
