i don't generally like black metal in a vacuum but i really dig this "black metal adjacent" sound... great album

Post-black-ish sort of maybe, but I hear many other forces at play so it’s perhaps only a flava or something. Adjacent? Could be

Solid stuff. Prod may be an issue mind

The closing five minutes of this album is wild. I'm sure not for everyone but I was in total bliss when I reached the end. And if these drums are MIDI I am convinced they are the most organic and realistic delivery of MIDI I have heard.

I dislike how mechanical they sound (and I can say this because I noticed beforehand, lol)... but yes, they certainly aren't the worst incarnation of that sound I've heard... convincing enough that I could've just put it down to production issues (without realising they were definitely programmed)

Definitely not for me. It was very obviously programmed and parts were jarring for me to listen to. As demon said, very mechanical sounding

Idk I have heard some bad midi drums (even used them plenty of times in my own budget recording seshes) but these sounds pretty great to aside from some fluctuating volume issues. The tone is nice, the stereo image is panned correctly, and not everything is gridded out to maximum precision so they breath well. Ill have to relisten closer but that's my initial take

I've heard a lot of albums where I couldn't immediately tell if the drums were programmed or not but this I could tell pretty much immediately. Production wise it's not bad but it was very mechanical sounding and lacked the dynamics/nuance/accenting of real drums. To each their own, but I'll take subpar live drums over programmed drums on any metal album
