you could listen to the first three songs and be more or less done with that one, so easy to check out

Definitely think this is their best after my second listen, kinda wild that a band who hasn't been able to make a consistently great normal-length album managed to pull off a real nice double album.

Yeah Boney (…Light Horseman [2]), third spin is where I realised it was going to be one of the best of the year and I upped my rating to a 4.5 - I started to realise there were something like 12 excellent+ songs on the thing.

Fourth spin I realised other than maybe three songs I loved the rest and the 5 beckoned.

This is so gorgeous. Absolutely love the vocal harmonies on most tracks. Old Dutch, Waiting and Waiting, Singing to the Mandolin, The Clover, See You Free - so many stellar tracks, no major hiccups from start to finish.

Thanks Gyro, SteetlightRock, Cryptkeeper - you always worry with double albums that one listen might not be enough to snag someone to book up those all important repeat visits.

I just felt if anyone's partial to the genre and you get to three full listens of this then you'll probably end up loving it.

“Old Dutch” is quite special

'Old Dutch' is my favourite yeah, followed by 'The Clover' and the ballad 'I Wanna Be Where You Are'.

'Singing to the Mandolin' has been the biggest grower for me so far.

Yeah The Clover and Old Dutch are my favourites too, after a second pass. Mandolin is easily my third and was pretty immediate for me. I Wanna Be Where You Are hasn’t resonated with me the same yet, tho I do think it’s beautiful. Even the lesser tracks on here are still good and worth in the context of a full spin, though I’d prob cut a few if I were attempting to get someone into this

Gyro - after my first five listens I did put together a 50 minute playlist (see the first page of discussion) just to trim the fat a bit but I will return to the full album tomorrow and see if the songs omitted have grown on me since

Definitely a lot to like on here, just a little overbloated

You know that you move me

You know that you threw a spark

You lit a flame and let a wildfire start…

‘The album artwork annoys me. Ben Howard looking ass.’

Think they said a random painting in the studio that stared at them every day while recording or some such.

I do see it as the biggest obstacle to this album being seen as a classic ;)

Really liked this on first listen. Title track hit me like a truck, the right song at the right time. Great review too.
