this is a good album, really like the full band rock sound and their instincts for noise are so good--even the ambient dronies hit. but I think they got better.

this took years to properly grow on me, I find I don't listen to it as much cause a lot of the things I like about it are only really present in the right context, like I actually have to listen to it, it doesn't lend itself well to being in the background

I can see why they changed it, though this seems slightly controversial: I could see themselves seeing themselves as leading the charge on a kind of Indigenous-“inspired” turn with their aesthetics. They’re probably subjectively a bit embarrassed by the easy association between the title and their tribal whoops, but I can see it as a move to have acolytes think twice about aestheticizing that in a careless way. It still sounds dumb when I say it and it’s like a decade too late, would have made more sense when people really were talking about them as The New Musical Communalism or whatever, but yea. That said I’m pretty sure if it’s at all possible to do this “the album is now called Ark” like not just the demo
