First pit I was ever actually in, albeit against my will ;__; Took advantage of a lull to skip through to the front tho 😎

Problem with this band is their music these years just doesnt have enough ambition and that stops all the good stuff that could still be created from even having a chance at existing.

After making a massively positive first impression on me, this went through a long phase where it kind of dipped. But I just listened to it again today and now I'm trying to decide if it's...like...their best since From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness?

Thing is catchy and riffy af
Feels like Welcome Home the album

the thought that anything here outside of the end trio sounds anything like Welcome Home (esp over certain other tracks on GA1) just stalled my brain so violently that you're gonna have to unpack that one from the ground up

So I let Coheed die in my head years ago, satisfied with their outpout up until about 2010 and a few songs on Ascension maybe. Last album was so bad I didn't even try touch this.
With Coheed dead and listening to this like a new project, I'm not so mad. Expectations were rock bottom but there's a few nice catchy moments here. Maybe I'm just really, really high. Honestly, I missed the melodic poppy sound they used to bring out before it turned too dull and saccharine. There seems to be a bit more of that here so I ain't mad.
A Disappearing Act and Love Murder One are pop nonsense but...I like em

That's kinda wild imo.
Afterman as a whole is such a triumph in my eyes.
Color is a swing and a miss, but then the band is right back at it with both Vaxis volumes so far. I think they could use some trimming, but damn they are fun.

Vaxis I is awful except the opening track. Vaxis 2 is wonderful

it's... kinda the opposite lol. the pacing and production of 1 is kinda off, but Toys, Gutter, Old Flames, Love Protocol etc are easily high points in their post-Apollo stuff. this one sounds nice n glossy but every song is the exact same and super fuckin boring

Not to mention the lyricism isn't there. It arguably hasn't been super consistent since GA2 but it's really lacking on this one.

Vaxis I is good but kind of exhausting because every song is like, 5 and a half minutes long and it's 80 minutes long. Feel like Vaxis II is paced much better, and songs are edited down that need to be, which makes the few longer ones have a better impact.

Vaxis I had me convinced the band was pretty much the new late-era Iron Maiden (including the lengthy runtimes lol) where they pretty much found a groove that emulated their most popular enough stuff but in a respectful way where the quality was good enough to stand on its own still. Rowan pretty much took the words out of my mouth with the songs he dropped. It's an incrdible album
Vaxis II stands on shakier ground, but I was actually surprised at how creative it was. The main thing that irks me still is how much they phone in the guitars during the verses, but other than that this might be their most ambitious album since Black Rainbow imo.
I can't believe we still have three volumes of Vaxis left lol These guys are gonna be 60 by the time it's done

Embers of Fire/Beautiful Losers is the most offensive thing Coheed has ever done probably
