I'm just noticing it now but does anyone else get a Warning/40 Watt Sun influence on a lot of the riffs on the new album? It's like a more melodic Warning with harsh vox. I really dig it.

they don't do a whole lot of tremolo picking, but there's a lot of that precise harmonized riffing that just sounds like a more uplifting take on doom metal to me.

Looks like I have to pay money for this, do you know why can't I buy it on bandcamp yet?

It is on bandcamp, just under the Gilead Media page.

Fen are so much better than these guys, I’m confused by the comparisons tbh. I’ll add to the evidence supporting the fact you can like one and not the other.

I love how some people itt love Fen and dislike these guys, while others are the complete opposite. It's just second-wave black metal. They aren't that different.

It's apparently enough to confuse certain people.

Fen are definitely more outside the box than these guys, how many 2nd wave BM albums do you know that incorporate post-rock elements and are 75 mins long? I don’t care whether you prefer these guys, that’s not my point. It’s the idea that they’re essentially the same style which I find such a bizarre claim.

I didn’t even realise they were in the similar bands section, weird. Do they have SOME similar elements? Of course, but you can’t just lump all BM in together, same with any genre.

I was just thinking how I’ll probably give this another spin. I remember it being much closer to the old-school 2nd wave stuff. As Fen is supposedly similar, I definitely should. I must be missing something.

Demon, but 90% of second wavers incorporate post-rock elements. In fact, both this and blackgaze tend to carry a certain degree of post-metal/post-rock within the sound, it's what sets apart those subgroups. Maybe I'm just insane, but I swear if all these bands just changed the tuning + vocal style accordingly but kept the melodies, they'd sound like post-metal bands.

Yeah maybe, sort of... I just feel that (recent) Fen leaned more in that post-rock direction than this did, whereas this is more of a classic 2nd wave/ambient vibe. It’s ok though, I’m going to revisit this, so I’ll see if anything changes.

Maybe I just prefer Fen, haha.
