Finally a review that matches the album in quality. The end of Bloodbirds, with the torn vocals, is so cathartic. Perfect album, Agalloch fast becoming my favourite band.

Agalloch is definitely one of my favorite bands too. All their albums are amazing. Can't wait until they release a new full length.

They're still unsigned, so they have to strike a deal with a label before anything will come out, which always has the potential to be problematic.

I never did find out why they split from The End Records, I was reading an interview with Don Anderson from just before Ashes came out, and he did nothing but lavish praise on the label.

I think their contract ran out, and they just couldn't come to a reasonable deal... nothing more.

Worthy of every little bit of praise it gets. Though I must say, I don't really like Part III of Our Fortress Is Burning very much... But nonetheless, this is still a classic for me.

The whole Our Fortress Is Burning trilogy really isn't to the par of the rest of the album for me. Still great, but not amazing.

PS: Fire Above, Ice Below is one of the most amazing tracks I've ever heard. Best this album has to offer imo.

Saying that agalloch is "not importand for metal or otherwise" is simply accepting the fact that the music industry is a twisted, retarded place.

The only way you can think badly (at least objectively) for an agalloch album is when comparing it to other agalloch albums.

If you are going to bring up Bach I am talking modern music here.

My comments seem to keep mysteriously disappearing. I could have sworn i said something about Fire Above, Ice Below not too long ago...

And yes, best album of the decade.
