Yeah Kane, IF I were to make a 'Bottom 5-10' list of the 'Worst of 2008', 'Pretty. Odd.' would definitely be on it. I liked 2 or 3 songs on that album, but man was the bad stuff (as you stated) "awful"!

Not to rehash what has already been said, but wasn't their new album them trying to sound like The Beatles?

idk i've always thought it was more them trying and succeeding to sound like a steaming pile of horseshit

Kane, I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that no songs were at least partially enjoyable on 'Pretty. Odd.'. Maybe, it's all in the time of day you are listening to it... Dr. Davey prescribes you do so at either "Nine In The Afternoon" or "When The Day Meets The Night". :-)

And yes PhantomLimb, there was a lot of Beatles-like songs on 'Pretty. Odd.'

I am presuming the synths & electronic music did absolutely nothing for you... And that the latter half of the album was preferred at least a little better.....

You just gotta respect the band for doing something completely and totally different. It's like my chemical romance all over again.

"You just gotta respect the band for doing something completely and totally different." Not really. The line between brave & stupid is pretty thin. Editors did something different with their last LP too & it was rubbish. Ditto with 'Pretty. Odd.; imo. There are some neat ideas here & there on it, but they're all over the place. 'Fever' is much more consistent.

Man, I hardly even remember writing this review.

JD, 'Pretty Odd' is very different to this. The fact you like this similarly to me, will probably mean you will dislike Pretty Odd too.

I don't think album #3 is all that far away, but the band has practically split up now, so who knows what it's gonna sound like.

Never listened to the record tbh, just the song I mentioned - it is featured in some version of singstar.

New stuff shouldn't be too far away, but who knows what direction they'll head in now. It could be an album of nursery rhymes.

err pretty odd sounded like the beatles

Honestly, anyone who says that knows nothing about music released in the 60s and 70s, and should be punched in the dick. Forthwith.

In other news, this album is better than CK, The Script and Def Leppard altogether in a shit music stirfry.

CK stands for Champ Kind. That's DaveyBoy's nickname. I don't think I've called him Davey or DaveyBoy since like 08.

I've never listened to Crimson King. Do you mean King Crimson?
