The first 5min of Creation Through Destruction are killer. The album gets better though, the sample use is on point and the atmosphere is so perfect

I went in at the deep end of d00m yesterday and tried to listen to this in full. Gave up after the first disc, but it still left me sorta intrigued.

Would 'subconscious dissolution' be a better place to start with? Apparently, it doesn't get that much luv on this site, but allmusic has a 4.5 review for it, stating it avoids most metal cliches and possesses a timeless quality

try starting with Paragon of Dissonance and take it in 1 disc at a time. it's still pretty dense though so idk

start with Metamorphogenesis. It's only 40 mins and it's prob their best, still need to check this one though.

Metamorphogenesis is sweet, but Paragon of Dissonance would definitely be the best starting point. The first disc of that is their most accessible music, lots of melodies without sacrificing the doom aesthetic. If it's still too rough, looking towards softer death/doom like Daylight Dies - Dismantling Devotion or Swallow the Sun - Hope would be the easiest way to come into the genre, those 2 albums are how I started.

honestly i would move backwards through their discography, it gets less accessible as it goes backwards

epistemological despondency is easily their most difficult but once you're in, you're fucking in

Best Esoteric imo, Maniacal Vale being a very close second. I never really thought of Esoteric as a "funeral doom" band tho. Always found them to be an extremely psychedelic death/doom band

Jammed this again last night when I got home from the bar. Album creeps around your head and fucks with your brain. It takes you to a place you can't visit nor imagine on your own. Amazing stuff
