really good album and I am a huge old-school deftones fan; bought my first album 15 years ago. However, I still think White Pony is easily > this. This album is solid start to finish and the soundscapes are great, however it definitely doesnt have the intricacies of something like "digital bath" imo. It is a "return to form" that more closely resembles a mix of around the fur and white pony, but I still enjoy both of those records slightly more than this.

I still don't think this is as good as White Pony, but it definitely has potential to be their second best album. Great review, I agree completely. One thing I was curious about:

When you say "ugly motive" did you mean motif? If not, expound further on what you meant by motive... I'm intrigued.
