If the cleans on their last album bothered me, do I even bother with this?

Edit: Read review over again, not gonna bother.

Yeah you'd end up giving this like a 2 or 2.5, so I'd say stay away.

Besides thinking a 3.5 was the correct rating what did you think of the album?

I mean it was damn good overall. I don't like it as much as the previous album though. As Hyperion said, I thought it was just more of the same, which isn't a bad thing necessarily. I found myself bored at some points. The overall atmosphere was pretty good though and I dig the shoegaze elements. As everyone has said, other bands do this style a lot better. This is still solid though.

I'm surprised by how much I actually like this. So far through the first 5 tracks I really like this. I find the post-rock influence relaxing. I'm torn between 3.5-4 so far. Which is surprising me in that I'm not huge into either black metal and post-rock.

Everybody has been using the world "insipid" lately.

I heard their previous album and definitely agree with that, it's just something I've noticed. It just seems to be the word to describe most of 2011's new metal releases.

Four full listens of the album and I still don't know what to make of it....

(First listen was like a 4, each subsequent listen, I tally more off the rating...)

I was always kind of curious about this band, this review has definately postponed that.

Very nice review. I'm a pretty big fan of that whole French-ish post/gaze/black scene (Alcest, Lantlôs, Les Discrets etc) as well as Agalloch, but I've never really bothered with Fen. I'm liking Carrier of Echoes, would you recommend that I try the whole album?

Carrier of Echoes is the best track here, if they can find a way to write a whole album like that, it will be great.

But, yeah, i guess it's worth an entire listen through, there's enough in the rest of the album to warrant at least one.

Somewhat unfortunate this album fell to it's own ideas and the like. I really enjoyed their previous album and still frequently listen to Colossal Voids off Malediction Fields.

Thank god they don't use french lyrics, otherwise they'd sound a bit ridiculous (Alcest, Lantlôs, Les Discrets etc).

Their style hasn't evolved but their songwriting is still clever , there are lots of chord progressions and rhythm changes that are almost ideal.

No no, I'm in the mood for some mid-paced bm with awesome melodies. Kind of reminds me of Primordial a tad bit.

Really? I never got a Primordial feel from this. I always get the impression of Agalloch when I listen to this band.
