Great read. And 'grats on the feature, Deviant.

Also: My spell-checker was convinced his name was Hyundai Braxton

LOL.

I know, but I was spending a little too much time lurking here and I told myself I need to find better things to do. So I did.

I was a huge fan of Helmet. They did a show in Lawrence, KS like 8 years ago. The venue advertised the show as "featuring members of Helmet". Therefore, I went to the show expecting Helmet. Battles couldn't be further from Helmet so I wasn't as into the show as I could've been. Stanier was still awesome though. He had a very basic drum kit and 1 crash cymbal that was raised up about 6 feet. He had to stand up to hit it everytime. Weird......and memorable.

Every time he goes for the crash it's like he's throwing Thor's hammer out into the crowd.

I'm missing some of the technicality from Mirrored on this record.

Seeing them live changed my perception of this album, as an overall, and how fucking stupid people get when their idols are not there anymore (meaning, a lot of assholes requesting for Atlas when clearly they weren't even near the vicinity of wanting to play it).
Regardless, fun funny fun fun album. Loved it.

Woah a Tojes post

Still, if I were a fan I'd want to hear Atlas. I'd go there just expecting them to play it. Didn't think they wouldn't just because Braxton left.

Hey Deviant excellent review man, just reading this I see how far you've progressed. Well done and this album is could be in my top 10. I love the chaotic nature of it, yet it never seems rushed.

I've never listened to the whole of Mirrored, but this album is much better than the stuff I have heard from the album. Futura is their best song to date.

As for the review, well written, but a surprising amount that I disagree with. The only song that doesn't have some kind of catchy motif is White Electric, but the rest of the songs (that are song and not short progression for the album) are top class. Also, I think your description of the the guest vocalists taking centre-stage in their tracks makes it sound bad, but I can't see the problems with it. I might be mistaken though.

Oh and I saw them live. Best ever

Because, for me, they end up becoming just another backing band for the artist, and not Battles. Obviously a very talented backing band, but they just fall in line and never really exude anything creative
