Cool art, cool review.
I really enjoyed 'Daughter' (like you said, that pre-chorus was gorgeous), but I get the feeling I won't enjoy the rest as much. Oh well, I still have fairly high hopes.

Just had a re-read of your review Adam. I have to ask why you did not address the elephant in the closet when it comes to this band... I mean, I know it's dialed down a fair bit here, but it's stilll pretty apparent that they are... well, you know... I don't want to put people off listening to this...

I appreciate Christian music when it is done right.

I almost always prefer Christian bands that are at least a little bit subtle about their faith (Thrice, The Receiving End of Sirens, etc.)
And I'm a Christian myself.

Some of their early stuff is in no way, shape or form subtle. It's better here.

I didn't mention the fact that they're Christian because that has literally no bearing on my experience of the record. I'm aware their older material was "less subtle", "more preachy" and whatever, but felt like bringing that up here would be doing a disservice to the fact that this record's lyrics are, by and large, easily translatable into a secular context. Some of these songs are probably about god, but it just seems like an extraneous exercise to try and pick out which ones and to talk too much about it.

I'm the least Christian person ever and I adore it. I know Kimm would probably say I can't possibly love it as much as somebody who lives at church, but I don't honestly see it as relevant. The lyrics rule both inside and outside of a religious context.

Well answered Adam. I don't necessarily disagree btw, but probably would have mentioned it in the context that you just commented.

Fan-funded through Kickstarter, 'Make It Right' is the 2nd LP from promising New York quartet Abel. Playing an indie'ish brand of alt-rock, this is a much more assured album than their debut 'Lesser Men', with the band's trademark contrasting dynamics being captivatingly performed. There is a simmering tension constantly beneath the surface & the controlled aggression of lead vocalist Kevin Kneifel especially impresses. While the religious themes of their previous releases have been toned down a little, the passionate lyrics most definitely have not on this excellent LP. Recommended Tracks: Fire Walk With Me, Come Home, An Ultimatum & Fine Lines.
