i think the thing with this album is that everyone actually agrees on what they hear, it just depends on whether you're ok with it or not. nobody who likes the album would claim this has any subtlety or originality. i agree with noctus in that its probably the most derivative post-rock album of all time. it literally rips off riffs from explosions in the sky. it's shameless. and if i wanted to demonstrate music as "art" then i wouldn't use this album as an example.

but it sounds so fucking good to me. i love this style of music and lights of motion makes it sound better than it ever has before. its squeeky clean. i don't give a shit how original it is. i agree with all of noctus's criticisms of this album... i myself just don't care about them.

i like it more than this but without some kind of variation i'd likely get sick of an album of it

have you heard maybeshewill's last album? you'd like that for sure

yeah i like maybeshewill a decent amount. i think their latest is probably their best. i don't listen to them as often as i should maybe. when i want something upbeat i now tend towards and so i watch you from afar's latest album, which i absolutely love.

and yeah, don't look for variation with moonlit sailor to be honest. the only occasional sense of variation is in songs that are a little less poppy and sound even more generic.

i was only going to give this a 2 to denote a relatively average, poor effort but oh my god that last track was just about the worst thing ever

and the shameless your hand in mine ripoff just made me feel nauseated and ashamed

i like the last track if only because it fits perfectly with the album's concept. if it was on its own then maybe i wouldn't like it so much.

for anyone interested:

the album's concept is that of a dream. the whole album is supposed to represent being in a beautiful dream. as the album nears the end is when you begin to wake out of the dream. "faded fluorescence", "reanimation" etc. coming out of the dream and back into reality. and then the last song is when you finally come back into consciousness, but you wish you could stay in the dream forever. "the lights are coming in", "please dont take me", "dream away" etc. i like that the last song has vocals because it fits with the idea of the main album being dream-like and the final moments coming back to human reality.
